Certificate of Status

A Certificate of Status from ONPro enables you to validate the operational status of corporations nationwide in Canada. This certificate provides insights into whether an existing corporation is in good standing with the Provincial government, along with its location and compliance with Revenue Canada's corporate tax filings.

The Certificate of Status is categorized as "active," "dissolved," or "in default," depending on the corporation's status.

Why do you need a Certificate of Status?

Financial institutions often require it for verification.
"Professional corporations" need to submit it annually to their governing body.
When establishing a foreign physical address for your business.
To ensure compliance with both Provincial and Federal Governmental requirements for existing corporations.

Please note that ONPro is unable to process Certificate of Status requests for the following types of organizations:

Co-operatives (Contact the Financial Services Commission of Ontario)
Credit Unions (Contact the Financial Services Commission of Ontario)
Insurance Companies
Banks
Corporations from other provinces that are extra-provincially registered in Ontario (contact the home jurisdiction)
Not-For-Profit corporations from outside of Canada that are extra-provincially registered in Ontario

Corporate Profile

The Corporate Profile Report (Entity Profile Report) displays current information on the public record for the subject corporation. All active directors and officers are listed. Some historical information such as amalgamating corporations (where the subject corporation is an amalgamation) and name history are included in the report. The report sets out the most recent information filed by the corporation on or after June 27, 1992 and recorded on the Ontario Business Information System (ONBIS).

Business Name Report

The Business Profile Report, or the Limited Partnerships Report in the case of LPs, serves as a comprehensive repository of up-to-date information regarding businesses registered on or after April 1, 1994. This report is applicable to various business structures, including:

Sole Proprietorships
General Partnerships (GPs)
Business, trade, style, or operating names registered by a corporation
Limited Partnerships (LPs)
Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)
Extra-provincial Limited Liability Partnerships (EP LLPs)
Extra-provincial Limited Liability Companies (EP LLCs)

Within the report, you'll find a wealth of information recently filed, encompassing essential details such as the business name, registration date, expiry date, business address, business activity, registrant(s) name(s) and address(es), documents filed, filing dates, and the unique Business Identification Number (BIN). Notably, the report compiles data from renewals, amendments, and cancellations, linking them back to the original documents filed on or after April 1, 1994, all organized by the BIN for convenient reference.

Federal Corporate Profile

The Corporations Canada database does NOT include corporations created under financial legislation (such as financial institutions, insurance companies or loan and trust companies) or those created under provincial/territorial legislation or corporate legislation from another jurisdiction. You can find corporations created under provincial/territorial legislation by consulting Canada’s Business Registries.

If a corporation has just completed a transaction with Corporations Canada, it may be several hours before the database is updated.

Searches can be performed by Corporate Name, Corporation Number, or Business Number (BN). Search Tips

Notes
Active CBCA corporations are required to update director information (names, addresses, etc.) within 15 days of any change. A corporation key is required.

Amendment details are only available for amendments effected after 2010-03-20. Some certificates issued prior to 2000 may not be listed. For more information, contact Corporations Canada.
